Austria goes back into full lockdown and makes vaccines compulsory – BBC News

Austria’s lockdown for the unvaccinated will become a full national Covid lockdown, starting on Monday.

It is the first Western country to return to a full lockdown, which Chancellor Alexander Schallenberg said would last a maximum of 20 days.

There will also be a legal requirement to get vaccinated from 1 February 2022.

Schallenberg is responding to record case numbers and one of the lowest vaccination levels in Western Europe.

Many other European countries are imposing restrictions as cases rise.
